Frequently asked questions
How much does the training cost?
The full Postpartum Care Provider training costs R9,500. This includes everything you need to become certified — comprehensive theory, support with your practical training, and ongoing guidance as you begin your journey as a PPCP. And the investment can be quickly recouped once you begin working. By supporting just 1–2 mothers during their first week postpartum, you could earn back the cost of your training!
How long does it take to complete the course?
The training is self-paced, so you can fit it around your life and other commitments. If you have more time to dedicate to your studies, you could complete the theory in around 3 months. If you prefer to take it more slowly, you can spread your learning over 6–8 months.
There’s no need to rush — the aim is to give you the time and space to properly absorb the knowledge, complete your practical training and build confidence in your skills.
What do I need to do to become certified?
Complete the online theory, pass the required assessments, and complete 36 hours of practical training by supporting a minimum of 3 mothers postpartum. Once all three components are completed, you’ll receive your Postpartum Care Provider certificate.
Is the certificate recognised or accredited?
Postpartum care is not yet a regulated profession in South Africa, so there is currently no formal accreditation body or regulatory framework. This means you can complete your certification and start offering your services as a PPCP immediately. We focus on maintaining high standards through quality training, ongoing guidance and continued professional development to ensure our PPCPs stay knowledgeable, experienced and equipped to provide excellent care.
How do I find mothers who need postpartum care?
You can find clients through your own network, or leverage the Ubuntu Mama platform to be matched with mothers looking for postpartum support. Once you complete the theory component, you can create your student profile and start building your experience, reviews and client base through real care opportunities.
How much can I earn as a PPCP?
Your hourly rate will depend on your level of experience and the services included in your care. Newly trained PPCPs may start around R150 per hour, while more experienced PPCPs offering additional services within their scope can charge up to R400 per hour.
Is there financial assistance or sponsorship available?
Not just yet. We’re working towards introducing funding opportunities in the future to make the training accessible to more aspiring PPCPs. If financial assistance would make the training possible for you, send us an email and we’ll keep you in mind as funding opportunities become available.
What support do I receive after completing the training?
You’ll join a WhatsApp community of students and experienced carers, giving you an ongoing network of support and connection. We’ll also stay connected with you beyond your training, sharing new information and guidance to help you keep your knowledge up to date, refresh your skills and continue growing as a PPCP.
